Many Americans, can trace their heritage to Ellis Island. Ellis Island was one of the largest immigration pathways into the United States. Prior to Ellis Island being built, the island embraced an interesting history. Before strict immigration laws began to surface during the dark period of the eugenic movement, immigrants coming into the United States needed nothing more than themselves, as Ellis Island held no ID laws, and didn't require Visas, or paperwork, just their name. But unlike our current immigration holdings, Ellis Island also was the home to the World's most exceptional teaching Hospital, used to care for all the 'poor, sick, and tired' immigrants our Statue of Liberty welcomes. In addition because education was important for everyone, classrooms that educated children held on the island for any reason.
